The
Greater Gardner CDC partners with other entities to provide
after school academic assistance and job readiness training.
Homework Center at Olde English Village
The GGCDC initiated an after school Homework Center in 1999
for the children living at Olde English Village, a low-income
housing complex in Gardner. This highly successful program
is made possible through partnerships with the Gardner Public
Schools, and the WinnResidential owner/manager, and MassHousing.
The Homework Center is open 3:00-4:30 p.m.
Monday-Thursday throughout the school year. In August, a three-week
Summer Enrichment Program prepares students for the new school
year beginning in September.
Office Internship Program
In 1999 the GGCDC created a pilot program in partnership with
the House of Peace and Education (HOPE House) to provide office
experience for graduates of the "Hope for Women"
program. In September 2007, the Greater Gardner CDC and HOPE
House will begin their 9th year of a successful partnership
to help women develop job skills, build self-esteem, and improve
their prospects for earning a living wage.
"Hope for Women" provides a 4-week,
individually tailored program of computer education, job-skill
training and personal support for program-eligible women who
wish to learn new skills in order to enter the workforce,
to get better jobs or to improve the quality of life for themselves
and and their family. Women who successfully complete this
program may then apply to the Greater Gardner CDC for another
4-week program that provides real-life experience in an office
environment.
